The Sir Law Kintour Series

The Sir Law Kintour mysteries are set in Scotland after James I returned from eighteen years of English captivity. Wounded, landless and short of money, Sir Law Kintour takes investigative work in Perth, where murder is entangled with merchant rivalry, royal administration and the unsettled politics of the restored king’s reign.

Assisted by the minstrel Cormac, Law moves from private employment to service as the king’s coroner. The five cases use letters, spies, disputed deaths and threatened rebellion to show how a seemingly local crime can reach into the royal court, while Law’s uncertain status leaves him vulnerable to sheriffs, chancellors and noble factions.
