Sir Duncan Campbell, 1st Baronet

Sir Duncan Campbell, 1st Baronet of Glenorchy, was a Scottish Highland landowner and clan chief active in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. He expanded Campbell influence through estate management, building, marriage alliances and royal service.

Known in family tradition as ‘Black Duncan’, he occupied a world where household administration and cultural patronage existed alongside feud and territorial ambition. His records provide valuable evidence for elite life in the early modern Highlands.
