The French Revolution series follows Yann Margoza and Sidonie de Villeduval from the first upheavals of 1789 into the Reign of Terror. Yann’s gifts as a ventriloquist and mind-reader draw him into a struggle with Count Kalliovski, whose control of aristocratic debt and a secret society makes him dangerous under both the old regime and the revolution.

The two novels combine romance, rescue adventure and restrained magic with theatres, prisons, political clubs, denunciations and the guillotine. Revolutionary Paris is not merely a backdrop: the collapse of legal and social authority repeatedly changes what the characters can inherit, whom they can trust and whether courage can survive when private vengeance is disguised as public justice.
