Pope Joan

In ninth-century Europe, a gifted girl named Joan refuses the narrow future prescribed for her and pursues an education normally reserved for men. Disguised as a male scholar, she enters the Church and rises through its ranks as learning, medical skill and political intelligence carry her toward Rome.
