Second Anglo-Burmese War

The Second Anglo-Burmese War began in 1852 after disputes between British merchants and Burmese officials escalated into military intervention. British naval and land forces captured Rangoon, Bassein and Pegu, while the court at Ava avoided a formal peace settlement.

The conflict ended with the annexation of Lower Burma to the East India Company. It expanded British influence around the Irrawaddy delta and made Rangoon a major imperial port, while leaving the Burmese kingdom independent in Upper Burma for another generation.
