Book
Too Good to Hang
First published 2023
April 1145. Thorgar the Ploughman is found beside the bloodied body of Father Edmund in the village of Ripple and is hanged almost immediately despite protesting his innocence. His sister travels to Worcester and persuades the sheriff that a swift conviction may have concealed the true killer.
Bradecote, Catchpoll and Walkelin return to a crime scene altered by fear, grief and the certainty that official justice has already been completed. Every witness must now consider the consequences of admitting error. The inquiry asks whether Thorgar was selected because the evidence proved guilt or because his status made him easy to condemn, and whether a second death can be prevented after the first investigation failed.
