Children of Earth and Sky

The Children of Earth and Sky sequence moves through a shared secondary world shaped by the political and religious pressures of the Renaissance Mediterranean. Its merchant republics, rival faiths, mercenary captains, corsair fleets and expanding eastern empire echo fifteenth-century Italy, Venice, the Adriatic borderlands and the Ottoman advance after the fall of Constantinople. The novels are connected by places, historical consequences and recurring characters rather than by a single continuous protagonist.

A Brightness Long Ago begins with the rivalries of Italian-style city-states and condottieri. All the Seas of the World follows merchants, exiles and former captives across a sea divided by commerce, faith and vengeance, while Children of Earth and Sky turns to the borderlands where artists, spies, raiders and soldiers are drawn into an approaching war. Each volume is self-contained, but together they examine how private choices survive inside events later remembered as history.
