Battle of Legnica

9 April 1241

A Mongol column advancing through Poland met the army of Henry II the Pious near Legnica. The European force included Silesian, Polish and allied contingents gathered to resist the invasion.

Mongol feigned retreats, missile fire and coordinated attacks disrupted the opposing formations. Henry was killed, and his army was defeated before it could combine with further reinforcements.
